Joe Worrall’s hopes of a move to Burnley may have been dashed by the Nottingham Forest defender’s broken foot, according to The Sun on Sunday (September 27, page 61).

Worrall has long been listed a target for Burnley, who are said to have interest in their own centre-back, James Tarkowski.

But it is claimed that the Nottingham Forest man’s injury will keep him out for the next six weeks – beyond the transfer deadline a week on Monday.

And that could force Burnley onto alternative targets, with Steve Cook, Craig Dawson and Scott Dann all mentioned by The Sun on Sunday.

The newspaper adds that Nottingham Forest want to loan out Carl Jenkinson and Tendayi Darikwa, formerly of Burnley, ‘if they can find suitors’ for the right-backs.

Forest have recently strengthened in both the pair’s position and Worrall’s, bringing in Cyrus Christie on loan from Fulham and Scott McKenna on a permanent deal from Aberdeen.

Jenkinson has only played once this season, but Darikwa has yet to feature for Sabri Lamouchi’s side in 2020/21.
