Nottingham Forest are reportedly trying to sign Lee Tomlin from Cardiff City but it could cost them £2.9million to do so.

Nottingham Forest may have to pay £2.9m to sign Lee Tomlin from Cardiff City on a permanent basis, reports the Nottingham Post.

Tomlin has spent the past six months on loan with the Reds after joining on loan from Cardiff during the January transfer window, scoring four goals in 15 appearances during that time.

The 29-year-old has done enough to convince manager Aitor Karanka to try and land the forward permanently and talks have begun to try and conclude a deal.

The Bluebirds are preparing for life in the Premier League next season after finishing second in the Championship and are prepared to let Tomlin leave.

However, they do want to make back at least a sizeable chunk of the £2.9m they paid Bristol City for the Englishman less than 12 months ago.

The transfer is further complicated because Tomlin, like the rest of Neil Warnock’s squad, are currently having bonuses owed to them sorted out following their promotion.
