The former Middlesbrough boss joined Nottingham Forest a week ago.
Nottingham Forest manager Aitor Karanka is plotting another raid on former club Middlesbrough, according to the Daily Mirror (page 44 of Monday’s printed edition).
The Northern Echo reported last week that Karanka is keen to bring Middlesbrough pair Patrick Bamford and Adam Clayton with him to the City Ground, where he signed a two-and-a-half-year deal to succeed Mark Warburton seven days ago.
And as well as Clayton, the Basque has another midfielder, Grant Leadbitter, in his sights, according to the Daily Mirror.
Leadbitter was captain during Karanka’s three-and-a-half years at Middlesbrough, which came to an end in March 2017.
And while the 32-year-old has started all four of Tony Pulis’ games in charge of Boro, his long-term future at the Riverside Stadium is currently uncertain having entered the final six months of his contract.
Nevertheless, a move for Clayton could be more likely for Nottingham Forest this month.
The 29-year-old has only started two of Middlesbrough’s past 17 fixtures under Pulis and Garry Monk.
