Nottingham Forest want a new goalkeeper in place before next week’s transfer deadline with speculation increasing around Frederik Ronnow.

A vast number of goalkeepers have been linked with Nottingham Forest over the last few weeks but it appears that Mark Warburton’s side have identified the number one target with a week of the transfer window remaining.

Yet, Forest will be under no illusions that they will not be able to sign Danish international shot-stopper Frederik Ronnow on the cheap this month.

Because, after Forest had a bid of £1.8 million turned down earlier this week, the Nottingham Post is now reporting that Brondby now rebuffed a second offer of £2.3 million.

The Danish giants will not sell for less than £2.8 million but and it remains to be seen whether the Championship high-flyers will return with a third bid. However, Ronnow is still very cheap in today’s market and appears the perfect addition to Warburton’s starting XI.

What’s half a million between friends?

Blessed with excellent reflexes as well as technical ability, the five-time Danish international should have no trouble fitting into Warburton’s build-from-the-back philosophy.

And it appears that the goalkeeper himself would be receptive to a move this summer.

“I want to be as good as I can and so I have to push myself too. I’m at a level now that makes me ready to go to another league,” Ronnow said in quotes reported by the Nottingham Post.

He hinted that a desire to fight Leicester City’s Kasper Schmeichel to be Denmark’s first-choice goalkeeper would be behind his decision to seek a new challenge.

Schmeichel’s international recognition is undoubtedly aided by the fact he is plying his trade in one of the world’s most popular leagues, after all.
