According to The Scottish Sun, Shane Duffy may be offered an escape route out of Celtic by Nottingham Forest.

It’s claimed that Forest boss Chris Hughton wants to reunite with Duffy, having worked with him at Brighton and Hove Albion.

The report states that Forest have made an approach to Brighton about terminating his spell at Celtic and taking over his loan.

However, that would mean Celtic agreeing to cut the loan short too, which would involve a financial penalty.

Hughton allegedly believes that he can get Duffy back to his best, having made him a solid Premier League defender with Brighton.

That’s really not what Celtic have seen so far, as Duffy has been dreadful since joining his boyhood club on loan back in September.

The 29-year-old has not only struggled in Europe, but also in Scotland, with Neil Lennon already looking to sign a new centre back to try and bolster a defence that has struggled with Duffy at the heart of it.

Is Forest really a potential destination though? Sure, Hughton is there and he knows how to get the best out of Duffy, but he has so many centre backs already.

Scott McKenna, Joe Worrall, Loic Mbe Soh, Tobias Figueiredo, Michael Dawson and Tyler Blackett can all play there, so adding Duffy without letting one or two of those defenders go seems strange – but leaving Celtic may be best for all regardless.
