Nottingham Forest are, once again, being linked with an audacious transfer move.

The Tricky Trees have shown so much ambition in the transfer market in recent months, targeting the likes of Houssem Aouar and Paulo Dybala, and now, they’re after another top young talent.

Indeed, according to Alfredo Pedulla, Forest are lurking in the shadows in the race to sign Nicolo Zaniolo.

This news comes after Tottenham made their opening offer to Roma for the Italy international, but Spurs’ first bid was knocked back.

Pedulla adds that Zaniolo is incredibly likely to be leaving Rome this month as he’s now training on his own away from the rest of Jose Mourinho’s squad, while the Serie A giants are looking for around €30m to part ways with the attacking midfielder.

€30m is a huge amount of money, especially for a club like Forest who have already spent well in excess of £100m this season already, but, luckily, Roma are open to a loan with an obligation to buy which would alleviate some of Forest’s FFP concerns.

Of course, an obligation to buy could backfire for Forest if they were to be relegated to the Premier League – you don’t want to be shelling out that sort of money after going down to the Championship.

However, with Steve Cooper’s side recently hitting form, the threat of relegation is no longer looming as large at the City Ground, and making a signing like this could be the calculated risk needed to steer the Reds clear of the chasing pack.

After all, Zaniolo has been described as an ‘extraordinary’ player in the past, and the fact that Spurs are so keen is also a testament to his quality.

As always these days, Forest look to be ones to watch in this transfer race.
