Dan Gosling could leave Championship promotion hopefuls Bournemouth with The Sun (24 January, page 59) reporting Nottingham Forest have entered talks over a loan deal until the end of the season.

After completing the protracted signing of Filip Krovinovic at the weekend, Forest could add yet more quality to their midfield with a player Chris Hughton knows better than most.

Hughton was Newcastle United manager when Gosling swapped Everton for Tyneside on a free transfer in summer 2010.

“We’re delighted to have signed Dan. He’s the right age and the profile he has is what makes it such an appealing capture for us,” Hughton said at the time of a then 20-year-old midfielder (Chronicle).

“We see him as a high-energy player who can play from box to box.”

Ten years later, could player and coach be reunited at the City Ground?

Gosling has tumbled down the pecking order at Bournemouth, playing just nine minutes of football since mid-December, and The Sun believes talks over a short-term move to Nottinghamshire are under way.

Cherries boss Jason Tindall told the Daily Echo recently he was determined to keep Gosling on the South Coast and it remains to be seen whether the experienced playmaker would swap a bench-warming role at a promotion challenger for a starting role in a relegation battle.

Nottingham Forest are five points above the relegation zone but Rotherham United have three games in hand below them.
