According to an article penned by Alan Nixon on his Patreon, Nottingham Forest are yet to agree a fee with Huddersfield Town over a move for Lewis O’Brien.
The midfielder has been strongly linked to Forest, and in recent days, The Telegraph reported that a move was imminent.
However, according to Nixon, that report was a little bit pre-emptive, and he’s led to believe that Forest are still haggling over the price.
The Terriers are, understandably, adamant that his £10m asking price is met, while the terms have been described as ‘favourable’ for Forest as this fee can be paid in instalments.
Another issue holding this deal up is a potential sell-on clause, Huddersfield want a 20% slice of any future fee received for the ‘exceptional’ midfielder, but, as you can imagine, Forest aren’t too keen to include such a clause in this transfer.
Forest seem to be dragging their heels on this one. Luckily, Nixon states in his own comment section that there are no rivals in this race currently, but with O’Brien being described as ‘probably the best midfielder in the Championship’ this week, it may not be long before other Premier League sides begin to circle.
Steve Cooper’s side could certainly do with a new midfielder. After all, James Garner has now headed back to Manchester United, and after a remarkable season in the second-tier, O’Brien could be the perfect player for this role.
Forest are very much favourites to land the midfielder, but they need to cough up the cash if they’re going to get this deal done.
