Report: Nottingham Forest could sell Joe Worrall to raise funds as Brighton bring pursuit forward

Brighton and Hove Albion have joined the race to sign Nottingham Forest defender Joe Worrall.

According to a report from the Daily Mirror, Nottingham Forest could cash in on Joe Worrall this month as Brighton decide to pursue the defender during this window rather than wait until the summer.

Worrall is one of a number of academy graduates currently proving to be a key player for the Championship side, making 25 appearances in the league and helping the City Ground outfit knock Arsenal out of the FA Cup at the weekend – though he was sent off just before the final whistle.

The Mirror reports that the 20-year-old is attracting plenty of Premier League attention at the moment, with Burnley keen and Brighton having a look.

In fact, the Mirror suggests that the Seagulls have now decided to try and sign the defender this month rather than wait until the summer transfer window as they had initially planned, perhaps sensing that interest in him is only going to increase in the coming months.

Interestingly, the Mirror adds that Forest could actually consider selling Worrall this month to try and give new manager Aitor Karanka some of the funds that he would like as he looks to make some changes to the squad.

Given Worrall’s form and his age, it would be a very questionable decision to sell him this month. His value should only increase as he gains more experience and, hopefully for Forest, continues to improve so cashing in may perhaps end up proving counterproductive.
