According to UOL, Nottingham Forest can sign Manchester City target Renan Lodi on loan from Atlético Madrid for a sum of €5m (£4m).
What’s the story?
Well, it was said yesterday that Nottingham Forest had opened talks to sign the Brazil international.
Those discussions seem to have progressed, as Steve Cooper has now been told he can have Lodi for the 2022/23 campaign if he stumps up £4m.
UOL add that talks with Manchester City are yet to advance into anything interesting, so Nottingham Forest are ahead of the Citizens as things stand.
The Premier League newcomers are only considering a loan deal due to the fact that Atlético Madrid want €40m (£34m) if they are to sell Lodi in a permanent deal.
However, even if Nottingham Forest agree to pay the £4m sum, the ‘operation is not considered simple’ – according to UOL.
Presumably, that will be down to Lodi.
In our view, Cooper will have to come up with something special if he is to somehow convince the South American to abandon Champions League football in favour of a move to the City Ground.
Interest in the left-back comes after he scored four goals and provided six assists in 42 appearances last season.
Nottingham Forest should leave Renan Lodi to Manchester City
In our view, this deal isn’t worth the hassle for Nottingham Forest.
As we stated yesterday, signing another left-back could potentially upset Harry Toffolo and Omar Richards, who have only just joined the Championship play-off final winners.
Furthermore, left-back isn’t exactly a problem position, and there are cheaper, more attainable options out there.

For example, Djibril Sidibe and Serge Aurier are both free agents, and Nottingham Forest are said to have agreed contracts with the pair of them.
Crucially, the latter can also play at left-back, so there is no reason to spend £4m just to have Lodi on loan for a season – it simply isn’t worth it.
