A report claims Forest and Cardiff interest in Sam Johnstone, for whom Aston Villa are said to have a bid turned down this summer.
Championship pair Nottingham Forest and Cardiff City are eyeing loan deals for Manchester United goalkeeper Sam Johnstone, according to the Daily Mail.
The report also claims United have previously knocked back bids for Johnstone from Aston Villa, Fulham, Wigan Athletic, Huddersfield Town and Bristol City during the summer window.
Villa have since acquired a different former Red Devils youth team keeper in Pierluigi Gollini, though it remains to be seen if the others are still keen on signing the 23-year-old.
According to the Daily Mail, new United boss Jose Mourinho has been impressed by Johnstone, but wants him to gain further competitive experience before coming back to challenge David de Gea and Sergio Romero.
And that could spell another stint in the Championship for the former Doncaster Rovers and Preston North End loanee.
Neither Forest, who this week signed Serbian shot-stopper Vladimir Stojkovic, nor Cardiff, whose current first choice is Scotland international David Marshall, are obvious candidates to be looking at new additions between the sticks.
That said, the captures of both Stojkovic and Stephen Henderson have left a lot to be desired by Forest fans, while Marshall was a reported target for Premier League clubs earlier in the summer.
Cardiff recently freed up some space by selling Marshall understudy Simon Moore to Sheffield United, although Johnstone, you would think, is unlikely to go anywhere as second choice.
