Norwich City are reportedly hoping that they can bring Leeds United star Kalvin Phillips to the Premier League with them.
According to a report from the Daily Mail, Norwich are considering making a bid for Kalvin Phillips, with the Canaries willing to pay £12 million to sign the Leeds star.
Phillips has enjoyed an outstanding season at Elland Road. It is probably fair to suggest that there had been a question mark lingering over the midfielder’s long-term future with the Whites heading into this past season as he struggled to outshine fellow academy graduate Ronaldo Vieira.
It raised some eyebrows when Phillips stayed and Vieira left during Marcelo Bielsa’s first summer at the helm. But the decision looks to have been inspired as Phillips established himself as arguably the most important player in Bielsa’s system.
Unfortunately for Leeds however, missing out on promotion will inevitably lead to speculation surrounding the 23-year-old’s future. And the Mail reports that there are already a couple of top flight sides monitoring his situation.
According to the Mail, Bournemouth are keen on the youngster, but Norwich are plotting a £12 million bid – despite the Championship title winners planning to only use a limited budget ahead of their return to England’s top table.
There is likely to be a lot of anger if Leeds sell for that figure. Adequately replacing Phillips would be an almost impossible task for a second tier club, and most Whites fans would argue that he is worth significantly more than what Norwich are reportedly willing to pay.
