According to the Pink ‘Un, Norwich City had a buying option inserted into the deal that took the Sheffield Wednesday striker, Jordan Rhodes, to Carrow Road on loan.

But the newspaper believes Norwich are now seeking a cheaper deal for Rhodes, who only scored nine goals throughout his season in Norfolk.

The Sheffield Wednesday manager, Steve Bruce – whose number two, Steve Agnew is the 29-year-old’s uncle – has yet to work with the player he was linked with at past clubs, Hull City and Aston Villa.

But Bruce hinted last month that he would be prepared to sanction Rhodes’ sale, before claiming that the Owls would be ‘led by Norwich’ in the discussions about his future.

And according to the Pink ‘Un, Rhodes is open to a permanent transfer and his family are ‘happily settled’ in Norfolk.

One year or two?

There is, however, some confusion over the length of the Scotland international’s contract with Sheffield Wednesday.

The Pink ‘Un reports that Rhodes is about the enter his final season at Hillsborough [as is also stated on the often hit-and-miss Transfermarkt website] and cites that as the reason for Norwich’s desire to bargain.

But according to several other outlets, including The Star, The Yorkshire Post and The Daily Mirror, Rhodes agreed a four-year deal upon signing from Middlesbrough in July 2017 – giving him another 25 months.

And if the Oldham native’s contract was to expire at the end of next term then surely that would have been factored into the original agreement between Sheffield Wednesday and Norwich.
