According to Sky Sports, Norwich City want around £50million for defender Ben Godfrey amid claims Newcastle United and Tottenham Hotspur want him.

It’s claimed that Borussia Dortmund and RB Leipzig want to sign Godfrey, seemingly preparing themselves to bid once Norwich’s relegation is confirmed.

The Canaries are set to go down, and Godfrey will be in demand. However, Daniel Farke’s side aren’t prepared to let him go without a fight.

Norwich believe Godfrey will become and English international, so will demand around £50million for him rather than letting him go on the cheap.

That kind of price tag may be prohibitive to many clubs in light of the global pandemic, and could see Godfrey stay at Carrow Road after all.

Over the weekend, the Daily Mail reported that Newcastle have discussed making a move for Godfrey, with English talent on the radar at St James’ Park.

The Sun note that Tottenham are interested too, with Jose Mourinho seeking a new centre back as Jan Vertonghen will leave on a free transfer this summer.

Newcastle may be able to spend that kind of money if their takeover goes through, but it’s hard to see Tottenham having that kind of cash to spend – even if they think 22-year-old Godfrey can become a star.
