Norwich City goalkeeper Declan Rudd could be heading back to the Championship this summer, with former club Preston North End leading the race for his signature, the Sun reports.

Rudd spent two seasons on loan at Deepdale when the Lilywhites were still in League One, and is coming to the end of another temporary spell in the third tier with Charlton Athletic.

The 26-year-old’s Norwich deal expires this summer, however, and Preston are said to want him as competition for current first choice Chris Maxwell next term.

Simon Grayson’s side are expected to lose former Manchester United number 2 Anders Lindegaard at the end of the campaign, with an intermediary for the Dane admitting via Tipsbladet this week that they are exploring options away from Preston.

Lindegaard moved to Deepdale on a permanent basis from West Bromwich Albion last summer, but hasn’t appeared in any competition since October.

Norwich are set to undergo a clearout following Stuart Webber’s appointment as sporting director, and Rudd isn’t the only Canaries player whose deal is coming to an end.

Ex-England goalkeeper John Ruddy and former £8 million man Sebastien Bassong are among the most notable potential absentees.
