Charlie Gilmour played two Europa League games for Arsenal last season – but could his Premier League debut come in Norwich City colours?
Norwich City have agreed a deal to sign young midfielder Charlie Gilmour from Arsenal, according to the Scottish Sun.
The newly promoted Canaries have already snapped up Patrick Roberts on a season long loan from Manchester City and Daniel Farke’s side now appear to be closing in on another of Britain’s bright young talents.
Gilmour, a Brighton-born midfielder who has been at Arsenal since the age of six, is set to become a free agent this summer and the Scottish Sun believe that he has already agreed a move to Carrow Road.
The 20-year-old’s departure might come as a shock to Gunners fans given that Gilmour played twice for Unai Emery’s first team in the Europa League last season, making his debut in November’s 3-0 win away at Vorskla.
But Arsenal’s loss could be Norwich’s gain. The likes of Max Aarons, Todd Cantwell and Jamal Lewis have all gone from strength to strength under Farke, a former Dortmund youth coach, and Gilmour should benefit hugely from honing his talents alongside the highly-rated German.
Gilmour, who was nominated for the prestigious Golden Boy award this week, idolises Arsenal hero Santi Cazorla and Norwich will be hoping he ends up being half as good as the two-footed Spain international.
“I use both feet and am developing my skills with Santi as a model,” he told Football London. “Santi has such quick feet and can go in any direction – that’s why opponents don’t know what he’s going to do.”
