According to a report from the Express and Star, West Brom have paid Liverpool £1.5 million to sign Daniel Sturridge on loan for the rest of the season, but there is no clause in the deal that will enable the Baggies to make the move permanent in the summer.

Just like the summer transfer window with Grzegorz Krychowiak, West Brom seem to have pulled off a stunning loan deal that caught many off-guard, with the Baggies landing Sturridge, with the Express and Star reporting that he turned down moves to Newcastle United, Inter Milan and Sevilla to make the switch to The Hawthorns.

And the Express and Star suggests that landing Sturridge for the rest of the season has cost Alan Pardew £1.5 million, though there is no automatic clause inserted into the deal that leaves West Brom obliged or with the opportunity to make the move permanent in the summer.

Despite Sturridge’s quality, his struggles with injury during his career still make the deal something of a gamble as it would be absolutely no surprise if Pardew decides that his attack has all the quality it needs for the rest of the season, and that will put pressure on Sturridge, as well as on the likes of Jay Rodriguez and Salomon Rondon.

But the fact that there is no permanent clause could arguably turn out to make the move an inspired one. West Brom will not have any problem offloading the striker in the summer if the deal does not work out, while the former Chelsea man will surely be fully determined to make the most of his time at The Hawthorns.

If he can prove his fitness, he is the kind of player that most Premier League sides would love to have as their talisman, so this deal could enable Sturridge to put himself in the shop window to tempt West Brom or another club to perhaps try and splash the cash in the summer.
