West Ham United defender Reece Oxford is to return to Borussia Monchengladbach.
The Daily Mail have claimed in their live transfer blog (Wednesday, 15:47) that Reece Oxford is to return to German club Borussia Monchengladbach on loan from West Ham – but a permanent clause will not be included in the deal.
The 19-year-old spent the first half of the season on loan with the German giants but managed to make just four first-team appearances, however they came in the Bundesliga side’s last four matches before the winter break.
Now, Gladbach have confirmed a move on Twitter after completing a deal to sign Oxford on loan for the second half of the season.
David Moyes decided to recall the teenager in order to have a look at him before making a decision, and he featured in the FA Cup matches against Shreswbury Town and Wigan as well as coming on as a sub against Crystal Palace.
But Moyes has seemingly decided to loan the England youth international back to Gladbach, but has prevented the German side from including a permanent clause in the deal.
Instead of being a loan-to-buy deal for Oxford, then, it will just be a temporary move that will see Oxford return to the London Stadium at the end of the 2017-18 campaign.
The Hammers have plenty of cover at centre-back in Angelo Ogbonna, Winston Reid, Declan Rice, Reece Burke, Jose Fonte and James Collins, making Oxford surplus to requirements for the time being.
