Andros Townsend is reportedly the subject of serious interest from Crystal Palace but is in two minds about move.
Despite reports that Crystal Palace have activated the release clause of Andros Townsend, the Mirror claim that there have been no official bids as of yet for the star, who is thought to be torn between whether to stay at St. James’ Park or leave.
Townsend was perhaps the biggest star of the show for the Magpies in the final months of the season during their belated resurgence under Rafael Benitez, scoring four goals following his £12 million move from Tottenham Hotspur in January.
That form has seen him attract the interest of several Premier League clubs who are keen to offer him an immediate return to the top flight.
The latest of the clubs to allegedly register intent to sign the 24-year-old are Palace, whom it was claimed had made an offer which triggered the winger’s reported release clause of £13 million.
However, the Mirror claims that no official bids have yet been received for the England man, and it is thought that Townsend is torn between wanting to be a key man in Benitez’s project in the Championship and wanting to play Premier League football again immediately.
According to the paper, he will not be afforded long to make his decision if an offer does come in, with Newcastle unwilling to wait around for the star to make up his mind and consequently lose valuable time to secure a replacement.
One factor to consider is that the Magpies have reportedly already lined up Bournemouth star Matt Ritchie, and though he could be brought in to compete with Townsend, some Geordie fans fear that the club may be bracing themselves to lose one of their prize assets.
