Nicolas Pepe helped Arsenal secure the signing of Gabriel this summer, Football London claim.
Arsenal fought off strong competition to sign Gabriel from Lille, and it was Pepe’s words which helped to convince the Brazilian to make the switch to the Emirates Stadium.
Pepe and Gabriel were teammates at Lille earlier in their respective careers, and when asked about the move, the Ivorian only spoke positively about Arsenal.
That may just show how much Pepe is enjoying his time with the North London club, even though he hasn’t been able to have too much success himself so far.
Pepe has failed to nail down a starting place in Arsenal’s team since signing, and he hasn’t shown the form which made him one of France’s most dangerous attackers.

Gabriel, on the other hand, has made a more promising start to life with Mikel Arteta’s side.
The 22-year-old looks perfectly suited to English football, and he already appears set to have an important role to play for Arsenal over the course of the campaign.
