Celtic have reportedly failed with a late move for Nick Powell.

According to TEAMtalk, Celtic made a last-gasp attempt to sign Wigan Athletic playmaker Nick Powell – but he rejected their offer, and intends to sign for Stoke City.
The Bhoys are in the market for reinforcements this summer as they prepare for a major rebuilding job this summer, and Neil Lennon may well look for another goalscoring midfielder.
Powell ticks the boxes, notching eight goals and six assists for the Latics this past season, and he’s leaving on a free transfer given that his deal expires this month.
The 25-year-old has been edging towards a move to Stoke for some time now, and whilst Celtic allegedly made a last-ditch attempt, Powell has snubbed the Scottish champions.
Powell has allegedly been given a lucrative contract to join the Potters, meaning that Celtic’s ‘big late push’ to sign him was in vain, and leaves Neil Lennon to go back to the drawing board.
On a free transfer, Powell would have been great value, but Bhoys fans will be wondering whether the former Manchester United man would have even started in Lennon’s side, given the other options at his disposal.

Tom Rogic and Ryan Christie are superior to Rogic in that number 10 role, so whilst the chance to sign him for nothing was appealing, losing Powell doesn’t feel like a major blow.
Powell now heads closer to his Crewe home with a move to Stoke, and only time will tell whether Celtic missed the boat on the attacking midfielder.
