According to The Sun, Arsenal are plotting a move for Burnley goalkeeper Nick Pope at the end of the season.
The Gunners did sign Bernd Leno last summer, but with Petr Cech set to retire at the end of the campaign, another shot-stopper will be needed.
With Tom Heaton back in as Burnley’s first-choice goalkeeper, England international Pope could be on the move this summer – and Arsenal are thought to be keen.
The Sun report that Arsenal are hoping to bring former Charlton prospect Pope back to London this summer, offering him the chance to compete with Leno.
It’s claimed that Burnley would want around £10million for Pope, but Arsenal may be willing to offer up fringe players in a part-exchange deal for the goalkeeper.
The report also notes that Tottenham were interested earlier this season, but Paulo Gazzaniga’s development means that they are now unlikely to make a move.
That may leave Arsenal in the box seat for Pope, and the 26-year-old may be the odd man out at Burnley as Heaton and Joe Hart are in place for Sean Dyche and co.
Having impressed last season to earn a place in England’s World Cup squad, Pope has huge quality but has been out of action since last July through injury.
That may be seen as a risk for Arsenal, but if Burnley are willing to sell Pope for around £10million, the Gunners probably won’t be the only suitors.
