According to Gianluca Di Marzio, Olympiacos defender Kostas Tsimikas is closing in on a move to Nice despite links with Premier League clubs.

Tsimikas has impressed going forward this season, racking up seven assists in all competitions. Unsurprisingly, his displays have attracted interest.

SDNA in Greece recently claimed that Premier League giants want Tsimikas. Liverpool allegedly viewed him as competition for Andrew Robertson, whilst Jose Mourinho wanted to bring him to Tottenham.

Arsenal were mentioned in that report too, with Olympiacos allegedly demanding €25million (£22.5million) for his signature – but there could be a twist.

Di Marzio claims that French side Nice are now closing in on Tsimikas. He claims that the two clubs are negotiating a deal worth just €8million (£7.2million) plus bonuses.

Tsimikas will pen a three-year deal with Nice if the fee is agreed, with the option of a fourth year. With Nice qualified for the Europa League next season, they are getting business done early.

The fee does seem on the low side, but maybe this is how transfer will go in light of the global pandemic. If Liverpool and Spurs really are keen, it’s a surprise they’re not pushing at such a low price.

A move to Nice does though give Tsimikas a great intermediate move. Jumping straight from Olympiacos to a top Premier League side may be a risk, but he will know that a big move will await if he stars in France.
