Newcastle United’s potential new owners have not agreed a clause which reduces the fee if they are relegated, according to the Daily Mail.

Newcastle Saudi-backers apparently expected to be in charge long before the Premier League restarted, but their proposed bid has taken months to be approved.

Newcastle’s new owners initial belief that they would be in charge swiftly was so strong that did not feel it was necessary to put a relegation clause in their initial bid. They were planning to be in charge long before such an option would even come into play.

Newcastle currently sit well clear of relegation and are highly unlikely to go down, and the Saudi-based bidders are ‘relaxed’ over the situation.

However, they are said to be surprised by the length of time it has taken for their takeover to go through.

The good news for Newcastle is that their prospective buyers appear very committed and have no desire to walk away from the deal.

The Premier League blocking the deal or the buyers not producing the money are believed to be the only two ways the takeover won’t go through now.

Sources close to the deal insist that Newcastle’s buyers are more than ready to pay the money, but what the Premier League’s final decision will be is not yet clear.

If Newcastle are bought out then they are set to become one of the richest clubs in world football.
