Newcastle winger Rolando Aarons is nearing a move to Italy.
Sky Italy journalist Gianluca Di Marzio has claimed on his website that Serie A side Hellas Verona have “closed the deal” to sign Newcastle United winger Rolando Aarons.
The 22-year-old has reportedly rejected a move to Championship side Hull City in order to push through a surprise move to Italy, in order to help Verona avoid relegation as they sit in 19th place in the top tier of Italian football.
Aarons has struggled to achieve first-team football at St. James Park this season, playing just four times in the Premier League under Rafa Benitez. Benitez’s former assistant Fabio Pecchia is in charge at Verona.
He worked with Benitez at Napoli and Real Madrid and could have proved key in moving for Aarons. The report claims the Newcastle winger has agreed a loan move until the end of the season with Verona, and is expected to arrive in Italy soon.
It is unclear whether a permanent clause in the deal will be included, with Aarons contract set to expire in 2021. The move is expected to be completed before Wednesday’s 11pm deadline.
It will see Aarons team up with former Leeds United goalkeeper Marco Silvestri, Juventus youngster Moise Kean who remains on loan with Verona and Italy international Alessio Cerci.
