Although Joe Hart would represent a great signing for Newcastle United, his wages are reportedly a stumbling block to any deal.
Although Newcastle United are in the hunt for a new goalkeeper, they have not yet made a bid for Joe Hart – according to the Chronicle.
England international Hart is looking for a move this summer after losing his place at Manchester City last year, with the Daily Mail revealing Newcastle’s interest last week.
But the Chronicle have now claimed that there has been no firm offer made for the former Torino loanee, also stating that any deal would be difficult.
Hart’s wages have been cited as a major issue, with his reported £120,000 a week demands falling outside of Newcastle’s current pay scale.
If a compromise could be met, though, Hart would represent a fine signing for Rafa Benitez, providing an experienced option until Freddie Woodman is ready for the first team.
Woodman, 20, excelled at the U20 FIFA World Cup in May and June, but he has yet to make his Newcastle bow and remains behind Rob Elliot, Karl Darlow and Tim Krul in the pecking order at St James’ Park.
Hart would offer an upgrade on all of those three senior keepers, however, and could clear a spot for Woodman to move into after a loan spell elsewhere.
For the City man, meanwhile, Tyneside would represent a route back into regular Premier League football and the opportunity to bond with another huge fanbase at St James’.
