Newcastle United are not being put off from signing Joao Pedro despite a belief that Watford will command big money.

That is according to a report from The Chronicle, who claim that Newcastle are keeping close tabs on Joao Pedro.

It’s noted that Newcastle were keen on signing the Brazilian last summer but talks ended up stalling.

Newcastle ended up ‘walking away’ from a deal for the Watford star and turned their attention elsewhere.

Alexander Isak was signed instead but Dan Ashworth and Eddie Howe both really like Joao Pedro.

The report adds that Newcastle are ‘unlikely’ to be deterred by the expected demands from Watford.

Joao Pedro only signed a new deal in September, committing his future to Watford until 2028.

Nobody really expects Joao Pedro to play for Watford until then, but out means the Hornets can demand more cash.

Newcastle seemingly aren’t fussed though and may be willing to pay up for Joao Pedro this summer.

Joao Pedro would give Newcastle another real goalscoring threat

We’re already seeing Newcastle benefit from having two goalscorers.

Alexander Isak is in red-hot form right now and Callum Wilson is chipping in with goals too.

Both players have endured some injury problems this season though and Chris Wood’s January exit has left Newcastle lacking a bit of depth.

Joao Pedro fits the bill for that role as he can offer support to Isak and Wilson whilst being capable of playing out wide when needed.

The 21-year-old has impressed in the Championship, bagging 10 goals and four assists in 32 league outings for Watford this season.

Hailed as ‘top class’ by Watford teammate Daniel Bachmann, Joao Pedro should certainly be playing at a higher level than the Championship.

Newcastle could give Joao Pedro another chance in the Premier League and there would be a certain satisfaction from landing both him and Isak having wanted both last summer.
