Newcastle United’s Jacob Murphy has reportedly been attracting interest from Championship side West Brom.
Newcastle United will only allow winger Jacob Murphy to leave the club if they can agree on an extension to Salomon Rondon’s contract, according to a report.
The Birmingham Mail claim that Newcastle are trying to leverage West Brom’s interest in attacker Murphy by trying to extend Rondon’s loan deal at the club.
The 29-year-old moved to St James’ Park from the Hawthorns during the summer on a season-long loan deal, with fellow striker Dwight Gayle heading in the other direction.
Nonetheless, the report states that at first Murphy’s move would hinge on the northeast outfit signing a replacement for the former Norwich man.
But the Birmingham Mail claim that it now appears that the Premier League side will only allow their versatile attacker to drop down to the second tier of English football if they can extend Rondon’s current loan spell.
Albion, who are currently sitting outside of the automatic places in the Championship, are aiming to make an instant return to the Premier League following their relegation last season.
The latest twist in the Murphy deal would be potentially problematic for the Midlands outfit because they are aiming to add as much quality to their squad as they look for that final push for the second half of the campaign.
During his time at Newcastle, Rondon has impressed supporters with his work rate and physical play in the final third as his contract at his parent club is due to expire in 2020, according to transfermarkt.
