Newcastle United changed their plans and did not include Rolando Aarons in their under-21 squad for their Checkatrade Trophy clash.

Aarons’ future has been up in the air for several months. He spent the latter half of last season out on loan with Hellas Verona, but returned having struggled to make an impact in Italy.
There was plenty of speculation that he was likely to be on his way out of St James’ Park over the summer, and his omission from Rafa Benitez’s 25-man Premier League squad seemed to confirm that his days with the club are virtually numbered.
And it appears that he may be about to be offered an unlikely lifeline. The Chronicle reports that he was expected to be part of the under-21 side that faced Doncaster at the Keepmoat Stadium, but the Premier League outfit now go into the contest with just six substitutes after Aarons was withdrawn.

With the squad list omission hinting that his Newcastle career is over, the chance to make a fresh start should appeal to Aarons – even if the chance seemingly set to be put on the table is probably not one that he would have considered previously.
