Rolando Aarons is set to leave Newcastle before Wednesday’s deadline.
Sky Sports have claimed on their Transfer Centre (Wednesday, 12:12) that Newcastle United winger Rolando Aarons has opted to turn down Championship side Hull City.
The 22-year-old has instead decided to try his luck in the top tier of Italian football with Hellas Verona, who are managed by Rafa Benitez’s former assistant manager Fabio Pecchia – who worked with Benitez at Napoli and Real Madrid.
With Hull struggling at the bottom of the Championship table under new manager Nigel Adkins, Aarons has decided to help Verona in their fight against relegation as they sit in 19th place in Serie A.
Aarons has been afforded just 137 minutes of Premier League football this season spread across four appearances, as he remains well down the pecking order at St. James’ Park.
Remaining sidelined for the entire 2016-17 season with a long-term knee injury, Aarons returned earlier this season but has struggled to hold down a regular place with Benitez preferring Christian Atsu, Matt Ritchie and Jacob Murphy.
It remains to be seen if there is a permanent clause included in the loan deal for Verona to sign Aarons at the end of the 2017-18 campaign when his loan expires, with his current contract ending in 2021 – a deal in which the Daily Star claims is worth £10,000 a week.
