Newcastle United and West Bromwich Albion could reportedly do business.

According to The Daily Mail’s Live Transfer Blog [25/07/2018 13:26], Rafael Benitez is making progress in a swap deal with West Bromwich Albion.
Newcastle have been linked with West Brom striker Salomon Rondon, with Dwight Gayle touted to go in the opposite direction in the same deal [The Chronicle].
According to The Daily Mail’s Live Transfer Blog [25/07/2018 13:26], Benitez believes progress is being made over that swap deal materialising.
Rondon is one of several West Brom stars who could leave The Hawthorns this summer following the Baggies’ relegation into the Championship last season.
Gayle, a £10 million signing in 2016, played a huge role in helping Newcastle win promotion to the top flight, though the former Crystal Palace marksman struggled last season.
The 28-year-old clocked 35 Premier League appearances but only managed six goals – a poor return for a striker and, considering he’s a proven quality in the second tier, joining Albion might be a good move.
Rondon, who earns around £50,000 a week at West Brom [Silly Season], only scored one more goal than Gayle last season, but the South American has the greater pedigree for top-flight football and surrounded by better players, he might well excel at St James’s Park.
