90Min claim Newcastle want to strike a deal for Lyon star Bruno Guimaraes before the weekend – or they will walk away from the negotiating table. The clubs are in talks, after reports broke on Wednesday a deal was close.
Bruno, 24, has emerged as one of the best midfielders in French football since his move from Atletico Paranaense in January 2020. He has clocked up 71 appearances for the Ligue 1 outfit, attracting interest with his displays.
Arsenal have been strongly linked but now it appears Newcastle are front runners to striker a £33.5million deal. The report says the main issue in talks right now is the make up of that fee – and Newcastle have set a limit.
The Toon have informed Lyon that if a deal is unable to be completed by the close of play on Friday, then they will walk away from the table and pursue other targets. But as things stand, it looks promising that Bruno will join.
Newcastle set Lyon limit: Toon need to pursue other targets, in case
Newcastle have been let down in the window already – mostly, regarding Jesse Lingard. Manchester United wanted an enormous package for Lingard to go on loan and it has seemingly scuppered a move.
Diego Carlos remains a Sevilla player with the La Liga club proving stubborn over his asking price – little surprise, with Monchi at the helm. So, Newcastle are seemingly learning from their recent issues.
Telling Lyon that a deal must be done by Friday puts them in control. They will have other midfield targets and should continue talking to other players in case a deal does not get done – with little time left in the window.
