According to Globo Esporte, Newcastle United are interested in signing Angelo Gabriel from Santos.

The 17-year-old wouldn’t be able to move to England until next year after he turns 18, but it seems as though his destination could be St James’ Park.

You would be forgiven for not knowing much about this young winger. After all, he’d still be in Sixth Form if he was in the UK, but it’s fair to say that there’s a lot to be excited about here.

Santos have been known to produce some of the very best footballers in history, from Pele to Neymar, and Angelo seems to be the next star on the Santos production line.

Indeed, this young man has already been making waves over in South America. He’s the youngest-ever goalscorer in the Copa Libertadores, while he’s the third-youngest player to ever play for Santos, behind only Coutinho (not that one) and Pele – arguably the greatest footballer of all-time.

At the age of just 17, Angelo already has 70 senior appearances to his name, and there’s reason to believe he could be an absolute superstar for the Magpies in years to come.

Newcastle actually have a bit of a Brazilian contingency growing on Tyneside at the moment. Bruno Guimaraes has established himself as a key player, while Joelinton has reinvented himself as a midfielder under Eddie Howe.

Lucas Paqueta has also been linked, so if Angelo arrives next year, he shouldn’t struggle to acclimatise to Newcastle as he’ll have plenty of his fellow countrymen around him.

This is certainly one to keep an eye on in the coming months as Angelo’s 18th birthday edges closer and closer.
