According to The Mirror (29/08, p67), Newcastle United have joined the battle for free agent winger Jordon Ibe.
It’s claimed that the Magpies want to sign Ibe on a free transfer, having been released by Bournemouth this summer.
Crystal Palace want Ibe too, and with neither side having big budgets, the free agent looks particularly appealing to both clubs.
Ibe has Premier League experience, which appeals to both Steve Bruce and Roy Hodgson, and Ibe may soon find himself in demand.
The 24-year-old was once a hot prospect at Liverpool, showing real promise at Anfield before losing his way and moving to Bournemouth for £15million.
Ibe was a major flop at Bournemouth though, managing just five goals and nine assists in 92 appearances for the Cherries.

Newcastle need to find some more pace and attacking depth, so Ibe does make sense, but there’s ultimately a reason he’s available for nothing.
Ibe hasn’t lived up to his potential, and whilst he still has time to turn things around at just 24, Ibe would be a cheap punt rather than a saviour for Newcastle.
