TalkSPORT claim Newcastle are keen on signing Leicester goalkeeper Kasper Schmeichel. The veteran goalkeeper has a contract until the summer of 2023, and Newcastle want to raid the Foxes for the Danish stopper.
Schmeichel, 35, has been at Leicester for 11 years now – where he has earned legendary status. The 80-time Denmark international is captain, and has clocked up an enormous 476 appearances, keeping 147 clean sheets.
There has been so suggestion that he would want a move away from Leicester – despite his contract ending in June 2023. However, it appears the Toon want to sign the Denmark goalkeeper.
Brendan Rodgers is keen to overhaul his squad after a poor Premier League campaign. He is open to a move. Newcastle is keen and keeping tabs on the situation. Schmeichel he is also open to a move abroad.
Newcastle keen on signing Schmeichel: A brilliant move
Schmeichel would be a wonderful signing for Newcastle. While signing a player who is 35 years of age in other positions would be a bad move, Schmeichel would be a top signing – given he is a goalkeeper.
Premier League proven, a leader and a player that signifcantly improves the Toon. If Newcastle can really strike a deal to lure Schmeichel to Tyneside, then it will be one of the signings of the summer window.
It remains to be seen what kind of fee would land Schmeichel. Whether Newcastle would be willing to match – or indeed increase – his £130,000-a-week (Spotrac) wages, also is up in the air.
