Newcastle United are being linked with another footballing superstar today, with TuttoJuve claiming that Juventus veteran Gonzalo Higuain could be on his way to St James’ Park.

Last week, Adrien Rabiot, Aaron Ramsey and Douglas Costa were being tipped to swap one black-and-white clad giant for another in a stunning, £70 million triple deal. Now, there is a fourth Juve hero apparently on the radar of a Newcastle side dreaming of a return to the elite as a shiny new era looms on the horizon.

If that long-awaited takeover can finally be completed, the Magpies will soon find themselves bankrolled by a Saudi Arabian billionaire.

While Higuain would comfortably become Newcastle’s best-paid player of all time, his £130,000-a-week wages would not make even the smallest of dents in Mohammed Bin Salman’s bank balance.

TuttoJuve claims that the Serie A champions would happily allow the Argentina international to move to Tyneside on a season-long loan, a year after his similar spell at Chelsea.

The 32-year-old has been a key part of Maurizio Sarri’s plans in Turin but, with just eight strikes in 34 matches, the days of Higuain breaking an all-time Serie A goal-scoring record (a feat he achieved at Napoli) appear to be well in the past.

Interestingly, it was former Newcastle manager Rafa Benitez who brought Higuain to Italy seven years ago, when Napoli parted with £34 million to sign a striker who the Spaniard described as a ‘great player’ (Sky).
