Newcastle United are reportedly keen on a deal to re-sign Crystal Palace winger Andros Townsend.
According to the Daily Mail, Newcastle United are considering a move to re-sign Crystal Palace winger Andros Townsend – just six months after selling him.
The Magpies beat Brentford 2-1 on Saturday afternoon to go back to the top of the Championship table, with Newcastle still looking like a strong bet for promotion.
However, managed Rafael Benitez has yet to make a move in the January transfer window, and some fans believe that extra quality is needed just to make sure that the club return to the Premier League.
Crystal Palace’s Andros Townsend
Now, Newcastle are being linked with a move for a former St. James’ Park star, as the Daily Mail claim that the Magpies are keen to re-sign Crystal Palace wide man Andros Townsend this month.
Townsend, 25, joined Newcastle from Spurs in January of last year, and hit four goals and two assists for the club as he impressed towards the end of last term under Benitez despite the club’s relegation to the Championship.

The winger’s performances unsurprisingly caught the eye though, and Crystal Palace paid £13m (BBC Sport) to lure Townsend back to London, with Alan Pardew raiding the Magpies to sign him.
However, Townsend’s time at Selhurst Park has largely been miserable. He couldn’t establish himself as a first-team regular under Pardew, and has yet to really impress under new boss Sam Allardyce either.
With just one goal and one assist in the Premier League this season, Townsend has been something of a flop at Selhurst Park, and Newcastle are now believed to be asking whether the winger would be keen on a return to Tyneside.
Townsend enjoyed one of the best spells of his career with Newcastle, and whilst it would mean dropping into the Championship, it may only be for a matter of months with the Magpies chasing promotion.
Manager Benitez is looking for a natural winger given questions over the futures of Yoan Gouffran and Christian Atsu, and Townsend fits the bill perfectly – but convincing him to drop into the second tier may be tough.
