According to The Mirror, Newcastle United and Southampton are both keen on Milton Keynes Dons talent Recoe Martin.

Martin, 18, has come up through the MK Dons ranks, but has yet to feature in the first team this season despite turning heads in the youth setup.

The forward hit five goals in 17 minutes against Leyton Orient last week, and has now been dubbed ‘the new Dele Alli’, another young player who emerged at MK Dons.

Now, The Mirror report that Newcastle and Southampton are both keen to sign Martin this summer, with Norwich City also in the race.

With no pro deal signed yet, clubs are eyeing up a compensation deal for Martin, and the League Two side may find it difficult to keep hold of him.

It’s particularly interesting that Newcastle are interested in signing ‘the new Dele Alli’ given that they missed out on signing Alli himself from MK Dons in 2015, as reported by The Chronicle.

Tottenham midfielder Dele Alli back in action during the Premier League match between Southampton and Tottenham Hotspur at St Mary's Stadium, Southampton on Saturday 9th March 2019.

The Magpies were all set to sign Alli but failed at the last minute as Tottenham swooped in to sign him, with Alli becoming a Premier League and international star.

Other MK talents haven’t enjoyed quite so much success, such as Everton’s Brendan Galloway and Liverpool’s Sheyi Ojo, but Newcastle would be hoping to finally atone for missing out on Alli by landing Martin this summer.
