Newcastle United are said to be interested in the exciting young defender.

According to an exclusive report from Football Whispers, Newcastle United are interested in signing Joe Gomez on loan from Liverpool this summer.

The report cites their own sources that suggest the Magpies have thrown their hat into the ring along with Celtic and Brighton and Hove Albion, and if Reds boss Jurgen Klopp wants to see what Gomez can do week in, week out in the Premier League, a move to St. James’ Park would give him that chance.

Newcastle manager Rafa Benitez will be hoping his Anfield connections can help him get a deal over the line ahead of fellow promoted side Brighton, and as for Gomez, he will surely be desperate to make up for lost time.

Still only 20, the former Charlton Athletic man can play anywhere across the back line and, while he is expected to become a top class centre-back in time, his performances for Liverpool at left-back proved his class soon after his arrival.

Serious injury has robbed him of chances ever since but now he is ready to show he has lost none of his quality or tenacity.

Football Whispers claims Newcastle have already enquired about the prospect of taking Gomez on loan for the upcoming campaign and it remains to be seen how Liverpool will respond.

Newcastle will know that if they sign Gomez, they will have a player who can operate on either full-back position or in the heart of defence, and while he is very young the Liverpool player has maturity beyond his years.

This would be an outstanding move for Newcastle if they can pull it off, and it seems a win-win for both clubs if a deal can be agreed in due course.
