Newcastle United are interested in signing Venezuela forward Juan Carlos Hurtado this summer, according to Foot Sur 7.
The 19-year-old currently plays for Gimnasia y Esgrima in the Argentinian top flight right now and has earned rave reviews despite scoring just twice in 17 games in all competitions.
And Foot Sur 7 reports that Hurtado is a target for a number of European sides heading into the summer window with Newcastle battling Marseille and Serie A high-flyers Atalanta for the teenager’s signature.
It is not known how much it would cost to purchase Hurtado, who made his Venezuela debut in March’s 3-1 friendly victory against Argentina.
But if Newcastle do win the race, they will have a hugely exciting talent on their hands – a genuine street footballer with the confidence and flair to produce the sort of skill which even catches Ronaldinho’s eye.
The fleet-footed Brazilian legend hailed Hurtado on Instagram after he left the Newell’s Old Boys defence for dead in a cup clash recently, as reported by Deportes.
According to The Sun, Newcastle owner Mike Ashley has promised £50million for Rafa Benitez to spend this summer in an attempt to convince the Spaniard to stay at St James’ Park.
