According to A Bola, Newcastle United are keen on Benfica goalkeeper Odysseas Vlachodimos who has a £53 million release clause.

This summer promises to be an exciting time for Newcastle supporters.

The Magpies are in the midst of a takeover involving Saudi Arabia Public Investment Fund. It could make them an elite force in the Premier League.

According to Le10Sport, former Tottenham Hotspur boss Mauricio Pochettino could replace Steve Bruce as the club’s manager. Talks are at an advanced stage, the French editorial claim.

The arrival of Pochettino may aid Newcastle in their bid to attract top players and push up the league.

And Portuguese reports claim Benfica goalkeeper Vlachodomis has become a target.

The 26-year-old shot-stopper has been compared to both Manchester City’s Ederson and Atletico Madrid’s Jan Oblak who both played for Benfica.

The Greece international has a £53 million release clause in his contract while Benfica are reportedly unwilling to sell for a penny less.

Vlachodimos has shown his capabilities this season. In 24 league games, he has conceded just 14 goals while keeping 14 clean sheets.

Newcastle have Martin Dubravka as their number one. The shot-stopper has been in excellent form this season with many suggesting he has single-handedly earned Steve Bruce’s side key points.

But Vlachodimos is arguably a step up and an exciting prospect for Newcastle.
