According to Foot Mercato, Newcastle are interested in signing Southampton full-back Yan Valery.
The French news outlet claim that Marseille are also interested in the Saints prospect.
The 22-year-old is currently on loan at Birmingham, where he has made seven appearances in the Championship.
Sadly, the Frenchman has suffered something of a dip in form with the Saints.
He burst onto the scene with a goal against Manchester United at Old Trafford, before also scoring in a 2-1 win over Tottenham.
However, he has lost his place under Ralph Hasenhuttl following the arrival of Kyle Walker-Peters.
Valery – who earns £2,000-a-week – was once a first-team regular under Hasenhuttl, and he has shown that he is more than capable of performing in the Premier League.

He amassed 37 Premier League appearances under the Austrian, and was even called ‘fantastic‘ by the Saints boss after that aforementioned strike at Old Trafford.
Sadly, things have gone a bit stale on the south coast for Valery.
In that respect, perhaps a move to St James’ Park would be the fresh start he so desperately needs.

There’s no doubting that Southampton have a player of real potential on their hands.
For whatever reason, he has just struggled to kick on since his breakthrough under Hasenhuttl.
Hopefully, he can rediscover his mojo under Steve Bruce on Tyneside, if a deal comes to fruition.
