Newcastle United loanee Christian Atsu has reportedly suggested that Chelsea teammate Baba Rahman should be on the Magpies’ radar.

A report in the Daily Mirror has suggested that Newcastle are interested in signing Chelsea left-back Abdul Baba Rahman following a recommendation from one of his Blues teammates, but are unlikely to be able to pull off a deal.

Rahman arrived at Stamford Bridge for an initial £14 million in 2015, the Mirror reports, but struggled to establish himself in the Blues’ first team before leaving in the summer to join Schalke on loan.

Given his inability to make much of an impact since joining the Blues, some may have wondered whether the Premier League leaders would leave the path clear for the Ghana international to leave again in some capacity.

He has certainly attracted the attention of newly-promoted Newcastle, as they begin preparations for their return to the top flight following their dramatic Championship title win, but only after current Magpies loanee Christian Atsu recommended the left-back to Rafa Benitez, the Mirror reports.

Despite Atsu only being on loan himself at St James’ Park from Chelsea, the Daily Mail recently suggested that a £6.5 million permanent deal was in the pipeline, and it appears that he has wasted little time trying to convince Benitez to target his teammate for both club and country.

Unfortunately for Newcastle fans however, the Mirror reports that a deal is highly unlikely as Antonio Conte is ready to hand Rahman another chance to prove himself in the Chelsea side.

But with Marcos Alonso performing so well this year, and with Rahman previously unable to make much of an impact, it would surely be worth Newcastle keeping the 22-year-old on their radar in case his situation changes once again before the summer window shuts.
