Newcastle United may still hold an interest in Anthony Hudson.
According to TEAMtalk, Newcastle United are set to offer Anthony Hudson a role on their coaching staff after initially being linked with the managerial job.
The Magpies are looking for a new manager after seeing Rafael Benitez leave at the end of his contract on June 30th, and they appear to be homing in on an appointment.
The Times note that Sheffield Wednesday boss Steve Bruce is the top target, and he’s keen to make the move to St James’ Park in order to manage his boyhood club.
Bruce wants to bring Stephen Clemence and Steve Agnew to Newcastle with him if a deal goes ahead, but he may also find that the club give him Hudson too.
TEAMtalk claimed last month that Hudson had been interviewed by Lee Charnley to replace Benitez, and whilst it was thought that he was out of the running, he may now receive a shock offer from the Magpies.
Hudson, 38, was sacked by MLS side Colorado Rapids in May after just eight wins in 46 games, which left fans worried that he would be the replacement for Benitez.
A former Tottenham reserve coach, Hudson has also had spells in charge of Newport County, Bahrain and New Zealand, with some feeling that he’s a promising young coach for the future.
His spell in America was far from impressive though, and handing Hudson to Bruce may hint that Newcastle want Hudson grooming to be Bruce’s eventual replacement, given the 20-year gap between their ages.
