Newcastle United reportedly want Crystal Palace’s Andros Townsend.
Andros Townsend was on the books of Newcastle United for only half a season following his move from Tottenham Hotspur in January 2016, but it seems that the Crystal Palace winger is wanted by the Magpies once again.
Townsend left Tottenham for Newcastle in January 2016 for a transfer fee reported by The Guardian to be worth £12 million.
However, in the summer of 2016 following the Magpies’ relegation to the Championship, the England international switched to Palace for a fee reported by The Independent to be worth £13m.
According to South London Press & Mercury, Newcastle are interested in re-signing the 26-year-old from Premier League rivals Palace in the summer transfer window.
Good signing?
Townsend did well for Palace during the 2017-18 campaign, as he scored two goals and provided seven assists in 35 Premier League starts for the Eagles.
The former Tottenham winger knows the Premier League inside out, and the 26-year-old would be a good signing for Newcastle.
It will be interesting to see how Newcastle fans will react should Benitez bring Townsend – who earns £55,000 per week as salary according to Spotrac.com – back to St. James’ Park.
