Newcastle United are interested in signing Billy Gilmour from Chelsea in the summer transfer window, according to The Northern Echo.
It has been reported that Newcastle have spoken to Chelsea officials about signing the former Rangers prospect on loan.
The newly-crowned European champions are reluctant to let Gilmour leave now, but things could change in the coming weeks and months, according to the report.
Wonderfully talented
Gilmour is a hugely talented midfielder who has impressed the great Roy Keane.
The former Manchester United midfielder was so impressed by Gilmour’s performance against Liverpool in March 2020 that he got out of his seat.
Keane told Sky Sports: “From his performance the other night, he was fantastic. As the game started I literally got out of my seat, which I very rarely do, and I thought, ‘Who is this kid?’
“There are certain traits you want from a midfielder, quality on the ball, football intelligence, composure. He had everything, it was one of the best performances I have seen in a long, long time.”

Gilmour has had injury problems this past season, but he is now fully fit and available.
Chelsea have a strong midfield department, and the former Rangers youngster will not find it easy to play week in and week out for the Blues.
If Newcastle are able to sign Gilmour on a loan deal, then they will get a dynamic midfielder who can pass the ball, drive the team forward, hold his own in the middle of the park and impose himself on the game.
