Newcastle are hoping that the 19-year-old can strengthen their promotion hopes.
Newcastle United are considering a January swoop for Genk defender Wilfred Ndidi, according to the Chronicle.
The Chronicle reports that the Magpies have watched the 19-year-old on several occasions this season, and he fits the bill for the kind of player that Rafael Benitez hopes to sign during the upcoming window, as he is expected to shine in the Championship before taking his game to another level in the top flight.
Wilfred Ndidi
One stumbling block to any deal may potentially be the price. The Chronicle reports that Genk want £8m for the Nigeria international, having knocked back a bid of £5m from Hamburg in the summer.
However, the Chronicle adds that Newcastle will have money to spend in the coming months so should be able to meet Genk’s valuation for a player who was scouted by Tottenham Hotspur and Watford during the previous window.

Despite still being a teenager, Ndidi has been a regular for Genk this term, and has featured in the Europa League four times this season – scoring in two of those games – so it is surely fair to say that he would be ready to cope with the demands of playing for Benitez’s side.
Another factor that may tempt Benitez to give an attempted move the green light is his versatility. As well as at centre-back, he is comfortable playing at full-back or in midfield.
