Newcastle United might have added another big-name player to their impressive shopping list of reported transfer targets.

Since it emerged that Saudi Public Investment Fund were trying to buy the Magpies for £300 million – a deal that the Premier League has been mulling since April – the St James’s Park club have been linked to some of the world’s biggest footballers.

The likes of Gareth Bale, Philippe Coutinho and Edinson Cavani have all seen themselves linked with stunning moves to the North East of England.

And now there’s another one.

According to Le10 Sport, Newcastle are set to join Paris Saint-Germain in the race to sign Chelsea midfielder Tiemoue Bakayoko.

The French midfielder, a £40 million signing by the Blues in 2017, has been on loan at AC Milan and Monaco in recent years, but the 25-year-old is linked with another big-money switch to PSG and the Magpies are apparently also in the running.

But the report adds that Bakayoko’s preference at this time is a switch to the Ligue 1 champions, and that the Premier League side are ‘well positioned’ for a swoop.

There’ll be no movement on this one – providing it’s accurate – until the Saudi PIF are in place at Newcastle, but with the type of project that they’ll want to build in England, it’s possible that the player might well want some part in it.
