Newcastle United reportedly want to sign Everton attacker and Premier League star Dominic Calvert-Lewin.
According to the Telegraph, the Toon are keen on improving their attacking options. And Calvert-Lewin, who last season scored more Premier League goals than Callum Wilson, is a player Newcastle’s new owners are keeping tabs on.
The England international, who signed for Everton in 2016 for a reported fee of £1.5m, has come into his own in the past 12 months with the Toffees. Indeed, under Carlo Ancelotti, Calvert-Lewin developed into one of the Premier League’s best natural number 9’s.
The striker scored 16 goals in the English top-flight last season, four more than what Wilson managed for Newcastle. And with Calvert-Lewin still 24-years-old, there’s time for the Everton star to develop even more.
As per the report, whilst Calvert-Lewin isn’t a big-name player many Newcastle fans were expecting following Saudi Arabia’s takeover of the club, the England international is a sensible target for what the Toon need.
Homegrown players have been the lifeblood of Newcastle in the Premier League era. And targeting a name such as Calvert-Lewin is the sort of signing supporters can get behind under the new ownership.

Whilst nobody knows who will replace Steve Bruce at Newcastle, signing Calvert-Lewin could unlock a potentially scary striking partnership alongside Wilson.
The duo are two of the Premier League’s most prolific finishers. Yet both Calvert-Lewin and Wilson operate different roles in the striker position.
And together, the two attackers could form a sensational partnership upfront if Newcastle’s new manager can get the best out of the English forwards.
