The Chronicle’s Lee Ryder claims Jesse Lingard is ‘understood’ to want an enormous £200,000 a week at his next club after becoming a free agent – but Newcastle are unwilling to break their wage structure to that level.
Lingard, 29, has left Manchester United this summer with his contract ending on June 30. He joins the likes of Paul Pogba, Nemanja Matic, Juan Mata and other players in leaving Old Trafford for nothing.

Newcastle have long been linked with a move for Lingard – as have Everton. A player that was excellent during a loan spell for West Ham in 2020-21, scoring nine goals in 16 games. Ryder states that Newcastle still want Lingard.
However, Lingard wants an enormous £200,000 a week at his next club. Ryder states that Newcastle and Eddie Howe are unwilling to break their wage structure in order to sign Lingard, as he would be the club’s top earner.
Newcastle unwilling to break wage structure for Lingard
Lingard’s wage demands are astronomical. A very good player, one that is in his peak and proven in the Premier League. But for £200,000, Lingard will struggle to find any suitors.
If the England star reduces his wage demands to a figure between £100,000 and £150,000, you would expect the likes of Newcastle to become interested. Lingard will want a Premier League side to boost his World Cup claims.
Something has got to give and given Ryder claims he has no offers on the table, one would expect that Lingard will end up reducing his demands. He needs a club, and as things stand, he will not get one at £200,000 a week.
